Ceramic crowns to restore damaged teeth

Dental crowns protect and restore teeth that may have been badly broken or have severely decayed overtime. They are extremely strong and long lasting preventing further tooth damage to maintain a healthy, pleasing smile.

Other dentistry restorations may also be an option depending on the exact issue you are facing. Inlays, onlays and dental fillings are a few other dental solutions commonly used to treat mild damaged, decayed or weakened teeth.

A dental crown may be used for the following:

Dental bridges to fill a gap

All of your teeth play an important role whether it involves speaking, chewing, maintaining alignment of other teeth or for appearance. Tooth loss doesn’t necessarily occur as you age, but if you do lose teeth, they must be replaced to maintain proper function of your mouth.

Fortunately, there are several options for correcting tooth loss. Dental bridge restorative procedures will help to replace missing teeth by using adjacent teeth called abutments. These help to support the bridge across the gap which is called a pontic.

The benefits of dental bridges include:

Dental crowns and bridges FAQs

At Sorriso Design we only use all-ceramic crowns because of its advantages, which include:

  • Natural tooth colour to match your existing tooth shade
  • Durable, strong and long lasting material
  • A more secure bond is formed between the crown and enamel

Another common type of crown material is made of porcelain fused to a metal base. Whilst this type of crown is quite durable, it tends to cause the tooth to have a grey or silver tint.

Also, a thin line of metal can become visible along your gum line, especially if your gums begin to recede.

These problems are avoided when an all-ceramic crown is used.

If a tooth has suffered mild decay then a white filling may be suitable. Alternatively dental inlays and onlays may be advised if a back tooth has experienced chips or decays in or around the cusps.

A dental crown treatment is ideally suited for badly fractured, broken or decayed teeth.

There are several different dental bridge systems and materials available. We prefer to use fixed bridges which are more secure and fit over the gap on neighbouring teeth. These are usually made from precious metal and porcelain but please consult with our dentists for the options available to you.

Depending on your particular condition and concerns, you may be interested in partial dentures to replacing one or more missing teeth. Another alternative is a dental implant. These offer a more stable and longer term option but we would advise booking a consultation with our dentists first to assess the choices available for you.
